SOPA and PIPA: Postponed Indefinitely

CNNMoney and Pitchfork have reported that the House and Senate have decided to indefinitely postpone voting on SOPA and PIPA.  The bills lost much of their Congressional support following Wednesday’s internet wide protests which included sites like Wikipedia, Reddit, HypeMachince, and Google as well as protests in New York, Seattle, San Francisco and Washington, DC. The petition launched by Google had more the 7 million signatures.

For now, the House will “postpone the consideration of the legislation until there is wider agreement on a solution,” wrote House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith.  He also, “I have heard from the critics and I take seriously their concerns. It is clear that we need to revisit the approach on how best to address the problem of foreign thieves.”

So for now, the people have spoken and the Internet is still free, but this isn’t the end of the issue.  New legislation will…
